GRIEF CARE FOR CHURCHES
Help Your Congregation
Grieve the pain.
Heal the strain.
Walk with God toward wholeness again.
Loss touches every congregation. Mahogany Soul Care partners with churches to strengthen grief care through education, practical support, soul care, and structured grief recovery opportunities.
GRIEF OFTEN HIDES IN PLAIN SIGHT
Grief is Already in Your Church
Estrangement.
Health Changes.
Unrealized Dreams.
Death.
Divorce.
Job Loss.
Your congregation does not have to experience a major tragedy for grief to be present. Every Sunday, people walk through your doors carrying losses others may never see.
But unrecognized grief is still grief.
WHEN COMPASSION NEEDS A PATHWAY
Churches Care Deeply. But Caring and Grief Recovery Are Not the Same Thing.
We pray.
We visit.
We prepare meals.
We preach funerals.
We send cards.
We sit with families.
All of these forms of care matter. But sometimes the immediate support surrounding a loss ends while the emotional impact continues.
People may still be hurting months - or years - later.
They may know Scripture. They may have faith. They may deeply love God. And they may still be grieving.
WHOLE PERSON GRIEF CARE
A More Complete Approach to Grief Care
Different people need different kinds of care at different moments. A healthy church grief ministry creates pathways rather than expecting one ministry or program to meet every need. MSC believes there are six (6) pathways available for a strong ministry of this kind. Each section of the circle has a different goal as laid out below.
Recognizing the goal within each pathway helps better assess what the parishioner needs. Through the assessing, meeting the need is tailored and timely. Ultimately, it can bring clarity on how and where to move forward, possibly into another pathway. Structure matters.
START WITH EDUCATION
Introduce Grief Recovery to Your Congregation
Your church does not have to begin with a full grief recovery program.
A congregation can begin with conversation, education, and greater grief literacy.
These four (4) workshops are the baseline for MSC’s grief literacy program.
Formal Grief Recovery Method exercises—including personal loss-history and completion work—remain within the formal Grief Recovery Method process. For individuals ready for a structured process, Mahogany Soul Care can provide access to the Grief Recovery Method®, an action-based program designed to help participants address emotional pain associated with loss.
At Mahogany Soul Care, we honor that distinction.
